Ironwood Beginner Badminton Camp

Beginner Camp Cancelled!
Unfortunately, due to the low number of registrations, we will have to cancel the beginner camp. We will try to reschedule closer to the season so that it is easier to spread the word.
When: 6/22/2024 8:00 am-12:00 Pm
Where: Ironwood High School (New Gym)
Open To: High School students (incoming freshmen welcome!) and coaches
Cost: $20/student, coaches free (payment details below)
Join Sunset Badminton in collaboration with Ironwood High School as we host the Summer 2024 Beginner High School Badminton Clinic! During this four-hour intensive badminton clinic, we will introduce you to everything you need to know to get ready to tryout for your high school’s girls badminton team! We welcome all potential and existing players, but we will focus on information and skills needed by players who are planning their first try out this upcoming season.
Coaches are welcome to observe for free!!!
Camp Itinerary
- First hour
- Overview of high school badminton
- Teams, competition, varsity/JV/exhibition, tournaments
- What to expect at (most) tryouts
- All about equipment
- Rackets, shoes, shuttles, strings
- Rules and keeping score
- Fair play and court etiquette
- Fitness, injuries, and prevention
- Q&A with varsity players from multiple schools
- Overview of high school badminton
- Second hour
- Light conditioning
- Grip and swing mechanics
- Ready position and the split step
- Intro to footwork (3 drills)
- Singles and doubles serves
- Break (20 min)
- Third-Fourth hour
- Wrist mechanics drill
- Mid/Rear court clear drill
- Net play drill
- Drives and drops
- Remainder
- Open play
What to Bring
- Racket (if you do not have one, please let us know in the comments when submitting your registration and we can see about getting a loaner racket for your child.)
- Good indoor court shoes
- Water
How to Pay
Please have your student bring $20 cash or a check made payable to “Ironwood High School” with “STUDENT’S NAME – beginner camp” in the memo section. Replace “STUDENT’S NAME” with your child’s first and last name.
Reserve your spot
By submitting the form below, you are reserving your spot in the clinic. If you are registering more than one student, please submit this form for each student. Spots are limited and are in demand. Please register early! If after registering, you learn you cannot make it, please reach out to us so we can open your spot to others. Coaches, please send us a message with your name, email, and school so we can reserve your spot.
